ISBT-Equine Bowen Therapy / ISBT-Canine Bowen Therapy
ISBT-Animal Bowen Therapy course director is internationally experienced animal physical therapist, Suzanne Baker BSc. DC. MCA. Dip Acc.
The official ISBT teaching team conduct the two animal courses – ISBT-Equine Bowen Therapy and ISBT-Canine Bowen Therapy. These principles may be applied on many other animals.
Prerequisites:
ISBT Equine-Bowen Therapy course:
proof of appropriate horse handling skills. Applicants must be horse owners or will need to show documented proof they

ISBT Canine-Bowen Therapy course:
applicants must be dog owners or need to be experienced in canine handling.
Equine Course
Level 1 course curriculum:
- Theory and concepts of ISBT-Bowen Therapy
- Equine musculo-skeletal anatomy
- Introducing fascia
- Veterinary terminology
- Safety working around horses
- Assessment procedures
- Saddle fit
- Therapy practice on humans to obtain a good technique before working on horses
- Lumbar theory and practical
- Mid back theory and practical
- Shoulder theory and practical
- Sequence use
- After care
Level 2 course curriculum:
- Further ISBT-Bowen practical session on humans
- Revise Level 1 Sequences
- Introduction to soft tissue structures
- Rider problems and their effect on the horse
- Dental issues and identifying problems with bits
- Neck theory and practical
- Hamstrings theory and practical
- Sacrum theory and practical
- Sequence use
Levels 1 and 2 are very suitable for professionals, non-professionals and horse owners. Those students who wish to continue their training towards a Therapist qualification will be required to complete Levels 3 & 4 including case studies. They will also need to have completed Modules 1 & 2 of the ISBT Human Bowen Therapy course (or certification from an approved Bowen school) to obtain their Therapist certificate and practising insurance. ISBT Equine Therapists will be required to have a good understanding of Human Bowen Therapy in order to be able to treat the rider as well as the horse.

- TMJ (Jaw)

- Stifle
- Advanced sacrum
- Advanced neck techniques
- Advanced shoulder techniques
- Case studies sharing and feedback
Level 4 course curriculum:
- Revision of Level 3
- Advanced equine palpation and assessment
- Performance and rider problems
- Therapist level saddlery
- Therapist level teeth and bitting
- Therapist level shoeing
- Therapist level safety awareness
- Insurance
- Professional code of conduct
- Case studies sharing and feedback
- Written exam
- Practical exam
Canine Course
Level 1 course curriculum:
- Theory and concepts of ISBT-Bowen Therapy Canine musculo-skeletal anatomy
- Introducing fascia Veterinary terminology
- Veterinary primary care
- Canine behaviour and safety issues
- Therapy practice on humans to obtain a good technique before working on dogs
- Lumbar theory and practical
- Mid back theory and practical
- Shoulder theory and practical
- Sequence use

- Common musculo-skeletal conditions
